Leicester City have announced the news that defender Ashleigh Plumptre has left the club at the end of her contract.
FAWSL Full-Time were informed of Plumptre’s Leicester City departure via an official club press release from The Foxes this afternoon.
The player’s departure from The King Power Stadium comes as something of a surprise. Plumptre played an important role for Leicester City last season as the club secured a dramatic escape from relegation to the Barclays Women’s Championship. Plumptre made 20 appearances for The Foxes in the Barclays Women’s Super League in 2022/2023, scoring one goal. The defender was a consistent performer for Willie Kirk’s side.
Plumptre’s next career move is not yet known. The player is now just a matter of days away from representing Nigeria at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. The upcoming tournament could provide Plumptre with an opportunity to put herself in the shop window.
It is very much a summer of change at Leicester City with the club aiming to progress in the Barclays Women’s Super League next season. Plumptre has become the 15th player to leave the East Midlands side since the end of last season. Four new players have been brought in with more to follow.
