Australian midfielder Hawkesby joins Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of Australian midfielder Mackenzie Hawkesby from Sydney FC.

The Seagulls announced the news via a post on their official club website just a short time ago.

Hawkesby started her career with Western Sydney Warriors before joining Sydney FC in 2019. The player spent time with Sydney Olympic in 2022 before swiftly returning to Sydney FC. She made 20 appearances in the Liberty A-League Women in 2022/2023 while she scored six goals. After finishing as a runner-up in three consecutive seasons, Hawkesby finally won the Liberty A-League Women last season.

After securing Hawkesby’s services for Brighton & Hove Albion, head coach Melissa Phillips said “We are excited that Mackenzie is joining us. She’s a versatile player and had great success last season with Sydney FC where she played alongside Madison Haley.

“She’s an eager player with a lot of hunger when she’s on the ball and we’re delighted to welcome her to Albion.”

Hawkesby becomes Brighton & Hove Albion boss Phillips’ fourth signing of the summer transfer window. The Sussex club have also acquired the services of Pauline Bremer, Vicky Losada and Madison Haley so far this summer. The Brighton & Hove Albion squad still lacks some depth therefore there could be further new arrivals in the coming weeks.
