England have left no stone unturned in preparation for Haiti says Wiegman

Sarina Wiegman says that England have left no stone unturned as they prepare to face Haiti for the first time.

The Lionesses begin their FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 campaign with a group match against the tournament debutants in Brisbane tomorrow.

Haiti are a team that will bring heart, spirit and energy to the tournament but Wiegman says that England will be focusing on their own game this weekend.

“It’s the first game for both of us and for Haiti, it is their first time at the World Cup,” Wiegman said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “Everyone is fit, so we are ready to go.

“They have a team that are athletic, very opportunistic and they play a transitional game. They also have an element of unpredictability. We are just going to try and play our own game.”

With Haiti coming into the international spotlight for the first time, they are something of an unknown quantity. Wiegman went on to say that England have been very diligent with their preparation.

She said “We have a whole team behind us to analyse the opponents, I think we know everything we need to know about them.

“We are very well prepared and I don’t think there’s any stone left unturned in preparing for this game. We’ve highlighted every player for them and we’ve pointed out some of their key players.

“They have a strong squad and it is the first time that they have qualified for a World Cup. They have a good team.”

England have been listed as one of the favourites to win the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 but Wiegman believes that the tournament is wide open.

“We are here, we have a dream and there is always a chance to win the World Cup but there are many more countries that can win the World Cup,” Wiegman said. “We are going to give everything starting tomorrow.”

England’s opening Group D fixture against Haiti kicks-off at 10.30am tomorrow morning.
