Brighton & Hove Albion forward Ferguson signs first professional deal

Brighton & Hove Albion’s teenage forward Chelsea Ferguson has signed her first professional contract with the club.

The Seagulls announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

Ferguson joined Brighton & Hove Albion at Under-16 level and she has successfully negotiated her way to the fringes of the first team. The 18-year-old made her first two senior appearances for The Seagulls during the first half of last season. Ferguson largely featured for Brighton & Hove Albion in the WSL Academy League in 2022/2023 and she scored three goals in 11 outings in the competition.

The next step for Ferguson will be to force her way into the Brighton & Hove Albion first team on a regular basis as a professional player.

After securing Ferguson’s services on a professional basis, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Managing Director, Zoe Johnson said “We are delighted that Chelsea has committed her future to Brighton as she aims to further develop herself as a player.

“She is a talented young footballer with a bright future ahead of her in the women’s game and she thoroughly deserves this professional contract.

“She has consistently pushed herself and performed at a good level during her three years in the club’s academy and we are pleased to have given her a platform to make the next step in her career.

“Chelsea is part of an exciting group of young players who we aim to progress from the academy into a first team environment. She is a key example of the players we want to develop as we look to further establish the club’s academy pathway.”

It has been a busy few days for Brighton & Hove Albion. In addition to Ferguson’s new deal, Vicky Losada, Madison Haley and Mackenzie Hawkesby have all joined the club.
