Charlton Athletic keeper Soper loaned to Ipswich Town

Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Poppy Soper has joined FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division club Ipswich Town on a season-long loan.

The Addicks announced the news via a post on their official club website just a short time ago.

Soper joined Charlton Athletic last summer and she largely provided goalkeeping cover in her first year with the South East Londoners. The player made one appearance for Charlton Athletic last season which came in a FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup fixture at Lewes.

With Sian Rogers set to claim Charlton Athletic’s first-choice goalkeeping jersey again this season, the decision has been made for Soper to go out on loan. She will try to help Ipswich Town finally secure a place in the Barclays Women’s Championship next season.

Explaining Soper’s loan move, Charlton Athletic head coach Karen Hills said “This move for Poppy has come at the right time. She has been working really hard in training and now needs opportunities to put all her hard work on the training pitch into games which is what’s missing for Poppy at this time.

“I believe she will be a huge asset to Ipswich this season and it will help Poppy continue to become a fantastic goalkeeper. We will be continuing to support Poppy throughout her loan move.”

Soper’s loan club Ipswich Town are likely to kick-off the new FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division season as one of the promotion favourites once again.
