Former Arsenal keeper Stenson joins Sheffield United

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Fran Stenson has joined Barclays Women’s Championship club Sheffield United on a permanent deal.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blades this evening.

Stenson moves to Bramall Lane after being released by former club Arsenal at the end of last season. The 22-year-old spent the second half of the 2022/2023 campaign on loan at Sheffield United. She made 11 appearances for The Blades in the Barclays Women’s Championship, keeping four clean sheets in the process.

Despite a shortage of minutes in recent seasons, Stenson is regarded as one of the best young goalkeepers in the country and she will be hoping to prove her worth to Sheffield United this year.

After completing her permanent move to Bramall Lane, Stenson said “I’m really excited. After I signed last season, I knew where I wanted to be and I’m glad to finally get it done.

“The trust the club put into me last season, hopefully I repaid that in my performances. I’m excited for hopefully even bigger and better things this season.”

Stenson becomes Sheffield United manager Jonathan Morgan’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window following the additions of Sophie Barker, Jess Sigsworth, Isobel Goodwin, Ashley Hodson, Jodie Hutton and Ella Kinzett.
