England midfielder Keira Walsh has not sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury, The Football Association have confirmed.
FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official media update from The Football Association just a short time ago.
Walsh started England’s 1-0 victory over Denmark in Sydney yesterday but she was stretchered off just before half-time after indicating that she had injured her knee. Given the high number of Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injuries that are currently being sustained by professional female footballers, there were serious concerns that Walsh had suffered the same fate but it has been confirmed that it is not the case.
Walsh was fully-assessed by the England medical team earlier today and an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury was ruled out. The midfielder will remain with the squad as they prepare for their final Group D match against China on Tuesday and she could yet make a miraculous return to action.
After winning their first two group matches, England simply need a positive result against China to secure their place in the last-16 of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023. The Lionesses currently top the group and only a disaster would see Sarina Wiegman’s side exit the tournament before the knockout stage begins.
