Charlton Athletic have announced the news that midfielder Emily Simpkins has left the club at the end of her contract.
The Addicks announced the news via a post on their official club X account this afternoon.
Simpkins spent one season with Charlton Athletic. She joined The Addicks on a free transfer last summer after leaving former club Brighton & Hove Albion.
Despite only spending one season with the South East Londoners, Simpkins made a really positive contribution to the team. The midfielder featured in 21 of Charlton Athletic’s 22 fixtures in last season’s Barclays Women’s Championship while she ended the campaign with a very healthy personal goal tally of six.
The player was a real asset for Charlton Athletic last season and she will be a big miss for the club in 2023/2024, although head coach Karen Hills has recruited lots of new experienced options over the summer.
Simpkins is thought to be set to seal a move to another club. A return to the Barclays Women’s Super League is a possibility off the back of her good form with Charlton Athletic last season.
Charlton Athletic begin life without Simpkins on Sunday when they face Sheffield United in their Barclays Women’s Championship season opener at The Valley.
We can confirm that Emily Simpkins has departed the club following the expiration of her contract.
We would like to thank Emily for all her hard work and dedication during her time with Charlton and wish her all the very best for the future.
