Former Birmingham City and Spurs defender Harrop announces retirement

Former Birmingham City and Tottenham Hotspur defender Kerys Harrop has announced her retirement from playing at the age of 32.

The player announced her personal news via a post on her Instagram account this morning.

Harrop spent 20 years with Birmingham City. She is the club’s all-time record appearance maker with 261 appearances in all competitions. The player was a Vitality Women’s FA Cup winner with the club in 2012. Harrop was a rock at the heart of the Blues defence and she is one of the club’s all-time legends.

The defender joined Spurs in 2020 and stayed with the club until her departure at the end of last season. Harrop was a regular starter for The Lilywhites throughout her time in North London.

Harrop left the Barclays Women’s Super League in the summer after making 183 appearances in the competition. That appearance tally is the most made by any player in the English top flight. She made her last professional appearance in Spurs’ 2-2 draw with West Ham United at The Chigwell Construction Stadium on the final day of the season.

The defender leaves professional football proud of her personal achievements in the game and fans, players and staff will also look back on her career fondly.
