There will be a North London derby in this season’s FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup with Arsenal having been placed in Group D alongside neighbours Tottenham Hotspur.
The Gunners are the current FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup holders after beating Chelsea 3-1 in last season’s final at Selhurst Park. Jonas Eidevall’s side were expected to join this season’s competition in the knockout stage, however, their early UEFA Women’s Champions League exit has resulted in them starting their FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup defence in the group stage.
A draw took place earlier today to confirm Arsenal’s group placing. It has been determined that they will participate in Group D alongside Bristol City, Reading, Southampton and local rivals Spurs.
It is far from an ideal draw for Arsenal. North London rivals Spurs will be looking to impress in a derby fixture under the guidance of new boss Robert Vilahamn while Reading and Southampton have started strongly in the Barclays Women’s Championship. Bristol City also have plenty to prove following their recent promotion to the Barclays Women’s Super League.
Arsenal will face two opponents at home and two away. It is yet to be decided if the North London derby will be a home or away fixture for The Gunners. Dates, venues and kick-off times are expected to be announced in the coming days.
