Chelsea keeper Evrard joins Brighton & Hove Albion on loan

Chelsea goalkeeper Nicky Evrard has joined Brighton & Hove Albion on a season-long loan deal.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from Brighton & Hove Albion this evening.

Evrard joined parent club Chelsea earlier this summer from Belgian Women’s Super League club OH Leuven. The Belgian international stopper is one of five senior goalkeepers on The Blues’ books. Evrard will have to be patient to make the breakthrough with the South West Londoners given the goalkeeping competition at the club and she has joined Brighton & Hove Albion on loan to gain some Barclays Women’s Super League experience this season.

After securing Evrard’s services for the upcoming season, Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Melissa Phillips said “Nicky is a fantastic addition to the squad.

“She has been a standout performer at club level in Belgium, as well as on the international stage at both last year’s EUROs and the World Cup earlier this year.

“We’re excited to work with her and give her the opportunity to test herself in the WSL.”

Evrard becomes Brighton & Hove Albion’s tenth signing of the summer transfer window. She could make her debut against Everton on the opening day of the season.
