UWCL DRAW: Manchester United to face PSG in first-ever European tie

Manchester United will face French club Paris Saint-Germain in their first-ever tie in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The draw for Round 2 of this season’s competition took place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland earlier today.

In total, 24 clubs were entered into the Round 2 draw, including UEFA Women’s Champions League debutants Manchester United. The draw was split into two paths: the Champions Path (with 14 teams competing for seven group places) and the League Path (10 teams competing for five group spots). Manchester United entered the draw as an unseeded team in the League Path, meaning that they could have drawn either VfL Wolfsburg, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, AC Sparta Prague or BK Häcken.

It has been determined that Manchester United’s first-ever UEFA Women’s Champions League opponents will be French club Paris Saint-Germain. The Red Devils will play the first leg of their Round 2 tie at the Leigh Sports Village on 10 or 11 October 2023 while the return leg will be staged in France on either 18 or 19 October 2023.

Should Manchester United record a victory over two legs, they will enter the UEFA Women’s Champions League’s Group Stage where they will be joined by Barclays Women’s Super League title rivals Chelsea. Arsenal also qualified for this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League, however, they were defeated in Round 1 by French club Paris FC.
