Skinner fully-focused on West Ham’s development ahead of Chelsea clash

West Ham United manager Rehanne Skinner says that the focus is on her side’s continued development this weekend rather than latest opponents Chelsea.

The Hammers travel to Kingsmeadow to face the reigning Barclays Women’s Super League champions on Saturday evening.

The fixture is Skinner’s fourth competitive game as West Ham United manager. She sees the contest as another great opportunity for the East Londoners to develop their game.

“We are going through a process of building up how we want to play,” Skinner said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “This is another opportunity for us to work on that against a really good side.

“We know what we are up against but every game in this league is really difficult. It is just about trying to do the things that are working really well for us consistently, regardless of the opponent. That’s how we will be approaching the game.”

Going on to discuss the challenge of Chelsea, Skinner again opted to focus on West Ham United’s own game. She believes that The Hammers will get chances at Kingsmeadow.

She said “They’re a really difficult side (to play against) Chelsea, they find ways to get points and win games.

“For us, we are continuing to try and develop the confidence that we have on the ball. If we try and control the things that we can in possession better, there are definitely areas that we can utilise within our own strengths.

“The flip side is that you have always got to be on your guard because they are capable of scoring, they score against everybody. That’s just part of the process that you’ve got to be ready for.

“We’ve got to be really resolute in the way that we defend and make life as difficult as possible for them. We have to keep building the confidence and bravery on the ball to then take moments as we get them and I’m sure that we will get some.”

West Ham United’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Chelsea kicks-off at 5.30pm on Saturday evening.
