Everton manager Brian Sørensen says that his side will need to be at their very best to get anything against Manchester United.
The Blue Girls host The Red Devils at Walton Hall Park this afternoon. Everton will be hoping to collect their first points of the season on home soil.
When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Everton boss Sørensen said that his side need to replicate the performance from the victory against Liverpool last week. He also emphasised the fact that The Blue Girls will have to be at their absolute best to get anything against last season’s Barclays Women’s Super League runners-up.
“We didn’t want to start (the season) how we did and there’s no hiding from that,” Sørensen said. “We answered it pretty well against Liverpool and got back on track. Now, we have a tough game against Manchester United, so we will have to be at our very best to get points. In this league, I think that you’ve got to be at your very best every time.
“If we perform offensively and defensively like we did against Liverpool, I think we will have a chance against them. If we are good at both ends, we can do something.”
Everton struggled to get results against the top teams at Walton Hall Park last season. Sørensen went on to highlight the financial gap between his side and Manchester United going into this afternoon’s meeting.
He said “We try to win every game but we also have to be realistic; what they’ve spent in transfers is probably more than what we spend on our whole squad in half a year.
“It’s a big gap and they’re favourites every day of the week but we will try our very best, we will work really hard and we will try to play the football that we believe in. If we can put a complete performance in, we have a chance.”
Everton’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Manchester United kicks-off at 1pm.
