Much more to come from Brighton insists Phillips

Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Melissa Phillips says that there is much more to come from her side this season.

After making a whole host of new signings over the summer, the Sussex club’s early-season results have been inconsistent. The Seagulls have won two and lost two of their first four matches in all competitions.

When speaking to the media ahead of this afternoon’s fixture at Chelsea, Brighton & Hove Albion boss Phillips said that there is much more to come from her side this season.

“We know that there is a lot more to come from us,” Phillips said when speaking in a Brighton & Hove Albion press conference. “We expect more of ourselves, especially in the two games that we’ve dropped.

“I think it is important to stay focused on our growth, the integration of the squad and the direction that we want to move.

“We are most disappointed with the nature of the goals conceded. It’s not as if we have been broken down significantly; goals have either come from a set-piece or a mistake in possession that has led to a counter.

“There’s lots to be proud of, lots to build on and we just maintain focus on building momentum and belief in the group.”

Like Brighton & Hove Albion, this afternoon’s opponents Chelsea added lots of new faces to their squad in the summer. Phillips believes that The Blues are also still gelling, although they have done enough to get results in the first few weeks of the new campaign.

She said “They’ve got some decent results and they’ve had a couple of tough games in their opening block.

“There’s not much preparation time given the World Cup and the first international window (of the season). We’ve felt that effect as well in terms of trying to pick the best side whilst getting the group to play well together at the same time.

“You’ve seen that in their first few performances but ultimately, they’ve been able to get some positive results. They look like a squad who have had a number of new signings as well and they’re still integrating them in but they have plenty of class on the ball.”

Brighton & Hove Albion’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Chelsea kicks-off at 2pm.
