Tottenham Hotspur loanee Grace Clinton says that receiving a first senior England call-up is an unbelievable feeling.
The 20-year-old was one of two players to receive a first senior call-up for this month’s UEFA Women’s Nations League double-header against Belgium. Manchester City’s teenage goalkeeper Khiara Keating also received her first call-up to Sarina Wiegman’s squad.
When speaking in an England press conference, Clinton said that receiving the call from national team boss Wiegman for the first time was a special feeling.
“You dream of this when you are a little girl,” Clinton said. “I didn’t expect to be called up to the senior squad so soon.
“You try to take it in your stride but it is an unbelievable feeling.”
Clinton’s maiden senior call-up has come off the back of the player making an excellent start to life at Tottenham Hotspur. The midfielder has joined Spurs on a season-long loan from Manchester United and she has starred for Robert Vilahamn’s side in the opening weeks of the campaign. The player says that she is reaping the rewards of her move to North London.
She said “I’m enjoying it a lot. It was something that I was big on in the summer; getting that loan and to just play, gaining that experience and confidence.
“Since I joined Tottenham, all the manager has given me is the confidence to express myself, to be me and to create.
“I am really enjoying the life in London and at Tottenham. I’m also happy working under the manager and with my teammates. I am really feeling myself and I like that.”
Clinton is set to be named in the England squad when they face Belgium at The King Power Stadium on Friday evening.
