England head coach Sarina Wiegman has revealed that Chelsea forward Lauren James will miss both of her side’s upcoming matches against Belgium in the UEFA Women’s Nations League.
The Lionesses take on The Red Flames at The King Power Stadium tomorrow night. England then fly to Belgium for the reverse fixture on Tuesday.
When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Wiegman confirmed that James will miss both games while defender Lotte Wubben-Moy will be assessed.
“Lauren is not ready,” Wiegman said. “She won’t be ready for Tuesday also. She picked up a concussion and as you know, we have to be really careful and follow the protocol, so it’s just too short for the upcoming two games.
“Lotte is on the pitch and we will assess her today. Hopefully, she comes through okay. Everyone else is good.”
After being defeated by The Netherlands last time out, England cannot afford any slip ups in their upcoming double-header against Belgium. Wiegman said that the squad are focused on putting things right.
She said “We always want to win. We know that the (external) expectations are high but we have our own expectations too.
“We lost the last game, we weren’t happy with that and we want to bounce back. We are working on improving our game, doing things right, playing well against Belgium and getting the right result. That’s how we approach it and those are the expectations.”
England’s latest UEFA Women’s Nations League fixture against Belgium in Leicester kicks-off at 7.45pm on Friday night.
