‘Absolutely no doubt’ that Aston Villa will react against Chelsea says Ward

Aston Villa head coach Carla Ward says that she has no doubt that there will be a reaction from her side against Chelsea this weekend.

The Villans welcome the Barclays Women’s Super League champions to The Poundland Bescot Stadium on Saturday lunchtime. Aston Villa go into the game still looking to get off the mark this season after losing their opening four league matches.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, head coach Ward said that getting a result against Chelsea would be huge as Aston Villa bid for a successful November.

“It’d be massive but most importantly, it’d get our season kicked-off,” Ward said. “If you look at November, we’ve got a lot of opportunities to get some points on the board and that’s what we’ve got to focus on.

“Yes, we’ve got Chelsea and nobody will give us a chance but we certainly will. I think it is really important that we go out there with a mentality that we want to try and win the game.”

Despite losing four league matches on the spin, Ward says that the team are feeling good and she has no doubt that her side will perform well in their latest fixture this weekend.

She said “Morale has been really high, it really has. We’ve only had a small group in but they have been excellent and the other girls have come back in good spirits too.

“The one thing that I have always said about this group is that they’re honest, they’re hard-working and those first four games will have hurt them.

“I have absolutely no doubt in my mind whatsoever that we will see a reaction from the group this weekend. The morale is really good and confidence is high to kick-start what we think will be a positive November.”
