Spurs ready to take the next step against Everton says Vilahamn

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Robert Vilahamn says that his side are ready to take the next step in their development against Everton.

The Lilywhites face the Merseyside club in their latest Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Brisbane Road on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs have been one of the most impressive performers in the Barclays Women’s Super League in the early weeks of the season. New head coach Vilahamn has brought a refreshing style of play with Spurs looking dangerous with every attack. Vilahamn admits that the project at the club is a long-term one, but believes that his side are ready to take another step forward this weekend.

“When I signed for the club, how we want to play and how we become a top team was a long-term project,” Vilahamn explained when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “I needed to start from the beginning and now, we are performing well and winning games.

“I get that people will expect us to play good football on Sunday and maybe expect us to win the game. We need to deal with that pressure now and take the next step in our development.

“People should expect us to win against Everton at home. I’m not sure if we are going to do it, but we are going to go into it and take the next step to hopefully, dictate and win the game our way whilst having enormous respect for our opponents.

“We are early in our phase, so we don’t know if we will succeed, but I think we are ready to take the next step with this squad.”

Opponents Everton go into the game off the back of a 5-0 home defeat to Manchester United last time out. Vilahamn believes that The Blue Girls will perform against his side this weekend, but Spurs have enough in their ranks to claim another three points.

He said “I’ve seen Brian (Sørensen) work in Denmark before as well, so I know how he wants to play football. He had a great result last season with Everton, it was a big improvement for them.

“This year, I can also see how he wants to play but he has had injuries in his squad and they’ve had a few tough games.

“Everton are a good team with plenty of international players, so I think they’ll be hoping for some winnable games. It is a tricky game because they’ve had some losses, but they will be confident of playing well against us. It is not an easy game but it is a game that we can absolutely win.”

Tottenham Hotspur’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Everton is scheduled to kick-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon. Tickets can be purchased on the day at Brisbane Road.
