Manchester United ‘well aware’ of dangers of dropping points says Skinner

Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner says that the club are well aware of the fact that they can’t drop points on a regular basis if they are to be successful in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

The Red Devils are unbeaten in their opening five league outings, however, they have managed to record just two wins so far.

Too many dropped points could see Manchester United struggle to challenge for the league title or qualify for Europe. When speaking in a Manchester United press conference, head coach Skinner said that the club are well aware of the dangers of dropping points.

“Yeah, of course, we are well aware of that, we know,” Skinner said. “We were disappointed against Brighton because we allowed them to get into a position where they could counter-attack. They were blocking then high-pressing and we could have been a lot more intelligent.

“We are very aware. Even though it’s not a loss, it’s dropped points. In this league, you can’t do that. It just gives you more pressure to win against the teams around you.

“I’ve enjoyed the way we’re creating chances. In every game, we’re creating chances and our expected goal difference is massive compared to last year. I want to see that consistency now and I want to demand that from my players. It’s the final bits, we’re in the right position.

“I saw a demand from the players (against Everton) last night, this is what we expect of each other. You can’t stand still, you have to move forward.”

Manchester United’s latest opponents are West Ham United. The Hammers are still finding their feet this season under new manager Rehanne Skinner. Despite West Ham United being a work-in-progress, Manchester United boss Skinner still believes that they have big threats.

He said “I think they recruited pretty well considering they didn’t have a lot of time to do that. I know Rehanne won’t be happy with the Bristol City result but they’ve been playing really well and I think they will be as dangerous as any team we’ve played so far.

“I have absolute respect but we also need to play the way we play. They will play a certain way and we need to maximise the space they will give us. We will create chances like we have in other games and we need to be ruthless to finish them. I feel they will be a tough opponent that we will need to concentrate fully on to be able to navigate.”
