After a statement 4-1 victory in last weekend’s derby against Chelsea, Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall is looking forward to another huge occasion against Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon.
Spurs play host to The Gunners at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in what will be the first North London Derby of the 2023/2024 Barclays Women’s Super League season.
When speaking to the media in the pre-match press conference, Arsenal boss Eidevall explained how his side will look to approach the occasion.
“We prepare the same way for every game, that doesn’t mean that we at anytime think that it’s dull,” Eidevall said. “The next game is the most important game. This is our next game and this is the most important game for that reason, so that means that one hundred percent of our preparation and focus goes into this game.
“We are really determined and motivated in trying to end this year on as high level as possible and after that, hopefully, we can go into a well-deserved Christmas break.”
When asked whether he thinks Arsenal have become the team to beat in the Barclays Women’s Super League, Eidevall replied pragmatically.
He said “No, I don’t think about it that way, but I am happy that we have been developing during the season so far. I still think that we have to continue to develop, I still think we have more things that we can do better as a team and we need to do that work day in, day out, so we can be ready to perform in all games that we have in front of us.”
Arsenal’s North London rivals Spurs currently occupy sixth position in the league table with 12 points. Eidevall spoke in regard to his managerial counterpart Robert Vilahamn, refusing to underestimate Arsenal’s upcoming opponent.
“You can see that he [Vilahamn] has definitely come in and changed the way that they have been playing,” he said. “You can see that they have been very good with that process, they have a very clear identity on how they want to play and they have been sticking with that, both in good times and in bad times. He has definitely been very clear in the direction that he wants the team to go in and I think that is always helpful when you try to develop something, that you’re strong-willed and you’re able to live your values in both good and bad times.”
The North London Derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal kicks-off at 12pm.
