Everton manager Brian Sørensen has called on his team to put on a performance that they can be proud of when they play host to Manchester City at Walton Hall Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Blues currently sit in seventh position in the Barclays Women’s Super League table after back-to-back victories on the road but they have failed to win at home so far this season and the team will be hoping to put that right in their final game of 2023 against high-flying Manchester City.
With several first team players still sidelined through injury, Sørensen understands the additional challenges that his side are facing this weekend. He simply wants Everton to put on a performance that they can be proud of come the final whistle.
“City are an unbelievable team, they have a great squad and they have been playing really well,” Sørensen said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “We will do everything in our power to get a team ready and then put in a performance that we can be proud of.
“Talking about a win is not where we are because we have seven, potentially eight key players out, that is a lot.”
Goalkeeper Emily Ramsey is Everton’s latest absentee. She was taken off during the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup defeat to Liverpool in midweek and is expected to be out for the foreseeable future.
“She’s out for a significant period, it’s definitely not just a two-week thing,” Sørensen said. “It’s her ankle ligaments which is not good.
“I can’t say whether it’s eight weeks or 12 weeks, it’s still early. I don’t think surgery is needed or anything but it’s still one that will take a few weeks to recover from. She was just unlucky; she made a save and then tried to get the rebound and twisted her ankle.
“I don’t normally like breaks but this situation comes at a good time so we can get people fresh. Lucy Hope has been out since the derby and is back after Christmas, she is starting to go on the pitch and Elise Stenevik is back on the pitch already.”
