Spurs can learn from FA Cup experiences says Vilahamn

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Robert Vilahamn says that his side can learn a lot from their experiences in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.

Vilahamn will get his first taste of English football’s most-famous cup competition when Spurs play host to Sheffield United on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs are aiming to be competitive in the cup competitions as they continue to grow and head coach Vilahamn believes that his side can learn a lot from their experiences in this season’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup.

“Every time you play in the FA Cup, it’s a knockout, so you have to be sharp going into these kind of games,” Vilahamn said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “If you give the opponents too many chances, you could be eliminated from the competition.

“We can learn from these games because we want to be competitive in the cup competitions. It’s also a good way for us to win a trophy and the final is at Wembley.

“For me growing up, the FA Cup is the real cup, it’s the biggest cup competition in this country. It’s interesting to start competing for that cup and we are looking forward to this game, it’s a good test after a winter break.”

Turning his focus towards Sheffield United, Vilahamn said that The Blades have a clear footballing identity, however, he sees plenty of areas where his own side can capitalise this weekend.

He said “We had Eleanor [Heeps] there on a loan this season, so we understand how they play. I know that they have some very good qualities; they have quick strikers and a strong playing identity, they have a certain style. When they are not succeeding, I see lots of good spaces that we can exploit.

“We have made some additions to our squad and we need to make sure that they make relationships on the pitch. It will be a good game for us to hopefully dictate and get them off to a positive start with this club.”
