West Ham United manager Rehanne Skinner believes that her side are close to reaping the rewards for their hard work.
The Hammers are winless in 10 matches in all competitions but many of their results have been close.
West Ham United took the lead at Chelsea last weekend in the fourth round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup. The Blues did manage to level the tie in normal time before scoring two extra-time goals as they won the game 3-1. Despite the defeat, The Hammers boss Skinner saw lots of positives in her side’s performance and she believes that results aren’t far away.
“For the most part, there were so many positives to pull out of the game and that gives confidence,” Skinner said when speaking in a West Ham United press conference. “They know that they are working hard to achieve the things that we are trying to do and they can see that it works.
“We played really well against Chelsea and there were so many different things that I could take out of it. We’ve definitely spoken about that and the players are onboard with that.
“For us as a collective, we just want to try and get the rewards for all of the hard work, that’s the thing that is just around the corner and it has felt like that for a while.
“This weekend, it’s another opportunity to do what we do. We are getting closer and closer to the results that we are looking for and I’ve got no doubt that it will happen soon.”
West Ham United’s latest fixture is against Skinner’s former club Tottenham Hotspur at The Chigwell Construction Stadium on Sunday evening. Skinner is treating her reunion like any other game with all focus being on her own side.
She said “For me, it is just about a game. Wherever you are as a manager, you are focused on the team that you are with.
“The main thing is for us to try and get a result and carry on progressing in terms of the things that we are trying to achieve. That’s really all that I am interested in at the weekend.”
West Ham United’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur is scheduled to kick-off at 6.45pm on Sunday evening. Tickets remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
