Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor says that he has been pleased with how his team have dominated games so far this season.
The Cityzens begin the second half of the Barclays Women’s Super League season with a fixture against Liverpool at The Joie Stadium this afternoon.
Manchester City go into the second half of the campaign just three points adrift of the league summit. While the club’s league ranking is solid, head coach Taylor says that he has been most pleased with his side’s domination of matches this term.
“Of course, we went into the weekend second in the league, three points behind Chelsea and with a group of teams where the competition levels have really increased,” Taylor said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “The biggest thing for me is the way we play and the way we have dominated games. In the majority of the games that we’ve played this season, we have been the team that has been really dominant.
“We are going to have good moments, difficult moments but I have been really impressed with how the players have handled these games so far. We’ve given ourselves a good opportunity to attack things in the second half of the season and we will.”
Going on to discuss the threat of Liverpool, Taylor sees a team that will allow Manchester City space but he knows that his side are in for a tough game.
He said “They’ve made a good start. They’re a very aggressive team the majority of the time, you can see that from how they go about it when they don’t have the ball. It can be quite risky; to be that aggressive is super-difficult, sometimes, teams can really exploit the spaces that you leave. You are never able to control all of the phases whether you have the ball or not, it’s so difficult this game, particularly with the level of player that you come up against.
“I think they’ve done really well. Matt [Beard] has been around for a long time now, he obviously had a previous spell at Liverpool as well and knows the club really well. They’re improving all of the time; they’re improving the squad, their transfer business has been really good.
“It’s a really difficult game for us, there’s no doubt about that, we’ve played them quite a lot recently. We will need to be on top form in all areas to be successful in this game.”
