Leicester City sign Swedish midfielder Pelgander

Leicester City have completed the signing of young Swedish midfielder Emilia Pelgander on a free transfer.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Foxes this afternoon.

Pelgander joins Leicester City on a three-and-a-half-year deal following the expiration of her contract with Swedish top flight club KIF Örebro. The 19-year-old midfielder has spent her entire senior career to date with KIF Örebro. She has made 72 appearances in the Damallsvenskan in which she has scored five goals.

On the international stage, Pelgander has represented Sweden up to and including Under-19 level. She is yet to push for honours in the senior team.

After joining Leicester City, Pelgander said “I’m really excited and grateful for this opportunity. I really liked my first talks with the manager, discussing how Leicester play and the philosophy here, and I think it will be a good fit for me.

“It’s a style of football I like to play; aggressive pressure and trying to keep the ball, and I think Leicester have started a journey that I want to be on.”

Pelgander becomes Leicester City’s fourth signing of the January transfer window following the recent additions of Saori Takarada, Yuka Momiki and Asmita Ale.
