‘A game we know we can win’ – Everton boss Sørensen previews Leicester City clash

Everton manager Brian Sørensen says that this afternoon’s fixture against Leicester City is a game that his side can win.

The Blue Girls welcome The Foxes to Walton Hall Park as they contest their latest Barclays Women’s Super League fixture.

Everton are yet to register a home win in the league this season but manager Sørensen sees the Leicester City game as one where his side can be victorious.

“Any time that we play a team that is not one of the traditional ‘top four’, it is a good opportunity to showcase us,” Sørensen said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “It’s a league of the top four and then it’s the best of the rest battling for that fifth spot.

“Leicester are growing a lot, they’ve invested a lot whereas we haven’t been able to for known reasons.

“It’s getting closer and more competitive. We have to go out there every time and show our absolute best. We have shown that we are a good team and that we can compete with all of the other teams around us. We want to do that again against Leicester because it’s a game we know we can win and it’s an important game for league position.

“A win would give us a nice push going into the next set of games. We’ve got some of the teams around us at home, so it’s an important period but we are ready.”

Everton have performed well in their first two games of the new year against Aston Villa and Arsenal. Sørensen said that his side’s good form is down to both an improvement with team health and the attitude of his players.

He said “Seeing people back on the pitch was nice and we could actually have 10 v 10 in training for the first time in a long while. That’s just a little thing but it’s a new year and people come back with fresh energy and ready to go.

“There’s stuff we’ve been working on, we know where to improve, where to be better and I’ve just seen people ready to deliver that in the Villa and Arsenal games. Now, we have a really important game at home that we want to win and hopefully, we can keep up the high standards that we have shown and make it a really tough game for Leicester.”

Everton’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Leicester City kicks-off at 12.30pm. Tickets remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
