Interim Brighton boss Harris ‘excited’ to step in and help the club

Brighton & Hove Albion’s interim head coach Mikey Harris says that he is excited to help the club’s women’s team following the sacking of former boss Melissa Phillips.

Harris was moved across into the women’s environment late last night after the club announced Phillips’ dismissal after just 10 months into the job.

When speaking in a Brighton & Hove Albion press conference, Harris offered his wishes to Phillips before expressing his excitement at the challenge ahead.

“It’s never nice when someone loses their job, particularly someone like Mel who I have a lot of respect for personally,” Harris said. “It is unfortunately the industry that we work in and it’s part of the job so to speak.

“I wish Mel well and I’m just excited to work with the girls and hopefully, progressing the team as long as I’m in the role.”

Harris went on to say that he is unsure of how long his interim role will last. He is happy to help the club for as long as his services are needed.

He said “The remit to me is just to help the club out with this situation, to step into the role for as long as it takes. I’m prepared to do that for as long as it takes.

“I’m really excited, we’ve got some amazing games this week and I am happy to help the club, the team, the players for however long that lasts.”

Harris takes charge of Brighton & Hove Albion for the first time on Sunday when they travel to Manchester United. He believes that the players should be confident going into that match.

“It’s a brilliant fixture,” Harris said. “If you can’t get yourself up for Manchester United away, I’m not sure that you should be involved in football to be honest.

“It’s a great challenge, a great opportunity. We did well against them earlier in the season and we will be really confident going into the game, we will give it our absolute best.”

Brighton & Hove Albion’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Manchester United kicks-off at 12pm on Sunday afternoon.
