London City Lionesses part company with head coach Morace

London City Lionesses have parted company with head coach Carolina Morace after less than seven months in the job.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from London City Lionesses this evening.

Morace’s assistant Nicola Williams has also left her position. The pair have departed with London City Lionesses hovering dangerously over the Barclays Women’s Championship’s relegation zone.

Morace and Williams were tasked with leading a new-look London City Lionesses side into the new season. A bright start saw The Pride claim five points from their first three league matches, however, the team’s form has declined and the club now find themselves in an unexpected relegation battle.

London City Lionesses are currently rock bottom of the Barclays Women’s Championship’s form table after a run of six matches without a win. The club briefly dropped into the relegation zone at the weekend with both Watford and Lewes having improved their form since the Christmas break.

If London City Lionesses do not improve their results in the final weeks of the season, the club will be relegated. With The Pride facing the serious threat of FA Women’s National League football, the club have opted for a change in management.

First team goalkeeper coach Darren Smith will take charge of the team in the interim period. He is likely to lead London City Lionesses into Sunday’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup fifth round tie against Liverpool.
