Arsenal cruise into Conti Cup final with routine victory against Aston Villa

Arsenal are into this season’s FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup final after recording a routine 4-0 victory over Aston Villa in their semi-final tie at Meadow Park this evening.

Stina Blackstenius netted a hat-trick while Frida Maanum was also on target as The Gunners made easy work of Carla Ward’s Aston Villa side.

Arsenal broke the deadlock after just nine minutes. Blackstenius was played in on the right side of goal and she thumped the ball into the back of the net.

The Swedish international netted her second goal from close range two minutes later before Maanum’s curling strike from 20-yards put Arsenal 3-0 up.

Katie McCabe then crashed a free-kick off the bar before Blackstenius completed her hat-trick when she headed home from Lotte Wubben-Moy’s looping delivery.

Arsenal thought that they had scored a fifth goal early in the second half when Maanum tapped in from close range but her effort was ruled out for offside.

Both teams searched for goals in the remainder of the game but neither were able to find the back of the net as Arsenal ended the contest 4-0 winners.

Arsenal will now face either Manchester City or Chelsea in the 2023/2024 FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup final at Molineux on Sunday 31 March 2024.
