Eidevall not focused on title race as Arsenal prepare to face Chelsea

Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall says that he is not thinking about how his side’s result against Chelsea will contribute to the title race.

The Gunners make the short trip across London to Stamford Bridge to face The Blues on Friday evening.

Arsenal go into the game three points behind Barclays Women’s Super League leaders Chelsea. While many will see the fixture as an influential one in the title race, Arsenal boss Eidevall insists that he is not looking at the contest in that way.

“I don’t think like that, it’s not a thought that’s in my head,” Eidevall said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “The only thought that is in my head is what do we need to do in order to maximise our way to win the game? That’s where 100% of my focus is on.”

Friday evening’s clash will attract a crowd of over 30,000 to Stamford Bridge. Eidevall wants to see more clubs commit to playing matches in main stadiums in a bid to grow the game further.

He said “I’m really happy when I see a game like this on Friday being played at Stamford Bridge and see the number of tickets sold for it because I really think that what we have done at Arsenal, playing more and more games at Emirates has been absolutely phenomenal.

“Where we want to go as a league, we will need more and more clubs investing in that journey and investing in getting games played at grounds with more attendances and filling those seats as well. The more clubs that will be able to do that, the better the league will be. That’s going to be good for all participating clubs in the league.”

Arsenal’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Chelsea kicks-off at 7pm on Friday evening.
