Manchester City ‘a great challenge’ for Brighton & Hove Albion says Harris

Brighton & Hove Albion’s interim head coach Mikey Harris says that this weekend’s fixture against Manchester City is a great challenge for his side.

The Seagulls face The Cityzens in their latest Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Broadfield Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

There are 23 points that separate second-placed Manchester City and ninth-placed Brighton & Hove Albion in the table. Despite the difference in ranking, Brighton & Hove Albion’s interim boss Harris sees similarities in the two clubs’ long-term goals and believes that this weekend’s fixture will be a great challenge.

“Every game in the WSL is a high challenge game, Manchester City is no different,” Harris said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “They’re having an incredible season under Gareth [Taylor].

“What I see from the outside is a club and a head coach with a clear style, a clear identity, a clear philosophy but it’s no different to what we are trying to implement here, just a lot further down on the journey.

“I think it’s a fantastic game to be involved in, a great challenge and we will approach it in that way.”

Brighton & Hove Albion defeated bottom club Bristol City 7-3 in their last league outing and the Sussex club are now eight points above the relegation zone. Harris said that the focus was only ever about looking up the table rather than down.

He said “We’ve never looked at it as an eight-point cushion, I’m more for looking up the league and I’ve said that from the start. We should be trying to finish as high as we possibly can, certainly not looking down the league.

“From my perspective, nothing changes; the process is the process and we stick to that. We are looking to finish as high as we possibly can.”

Brighton & Hove Albion’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Manchester City kicks-off at 12.30pm on Sunday afternoon. Tickets remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
