‘I didn’t think they deserved to lose that’ – Ditchburn reacts to Durham’s defeat to Charlton

Durham’s first team head coach Claire Ditchburn said that her side were unlucky to fall to defeat against Charlton Athletic at Maiden Castle this afternoon.

In a game of few chances, The Wildcats went down 1-0 with Elisha N’Dow netting the only goal early in the first half.

Durham matched The Addicks throughout the 90 minutes and first team head coach Ditchburn admitted that it was hard to believe that her side came away with nothing.

“We are walking away scratching our heads thinking how did we not get a goal ourselves?,” Ditchburn said when speaking to the media after the match. “It was extremely tight.

“It was a game of few clear-cut chances but we did probably create enough to get a goal. A set play [goal] exemplifies how tight it was.”

Durham are still waiting for their first win of 2024 but Ditchburn could not fault her side for their efforts in their latest fixture.

She said “Beth [Hepple] has had one tipped onto the top of the bar, Lily [Crosthwaite] has had one cleared off the line, so we’ve done absolutely everything.

“It’s very hard to be too disappointed with the girls. I’m just disappointed for them because I didn’t think they deserved to lose that today.”

Durham are back in action again next Sunday when they travel to Sunderland to contest the A690 derby.
