Arsenal midfielder Frida Maanum is continuing to be monitored by the club’s medical team after collapsing in Sunday’s FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup final against Chelsea at Molineux.
The player went down towards the end of normal time. She needed urgent medical attention on the pitch before leaving on a stretcher.
After the match, Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall told the media that Maanum was conscious and that he was able to briefly speak with her. He also confirmed that the midfielder would be well enough to travel back to North London with the team.
Arsenal have today provided a further update on Maanum’s health. The player is understood to be in a stable condition and she will continue to be monitored by the Arsenal medical staff as the club look to determine the cause of her feeling unwell. It has been reported that Maanum is being assessed at Arsenal rather than resting at home.
Following Maanum’s illness, Arsenal held their nerve to go on to win the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup. Stina Blackstenius netted a 116th-minute goal as The Gunners defeated Chelsea 1-0. Arsenal have now won back-to-back FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cups while they are the competition’s most successful club with seven trophy victories.
