Manchester City’s goalkeeping union has been dealt a further blow with Sandy MacIver having sustained an injury whilst in action for Scotland yesterday evening.
The 25-year-old started The Tartan Army’s goalless draw with Serbia in UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 qualifying, however, she went down with a suspected knee injury in the early stages of the match and had to be replaced. The player was later seen on crutches.
MacIver’s club Manchester City now face a nervous wait to learn of the extent of her injury. The Cityzens’ goalkeeping department is already in a difficult position; Ellie Roebuck is recovering from a stroke while first-choice keeper Khiara Keating withdrew from this month’s England camp with a knock. It is hoped that Keating’s injury is only minor with England head coach Sarina Wiegman indicating that the national team ‘didn’t want to take any risks’ when it came to her fitness.
Manchester City have 15 days before they return to competitive action. The Cityzens’ next fixture is at home to West Ham United on Sunday 21 April 2024. Head coach Gareth Taylor will be hoping that he can call on the services of at least one senior goalkeeper for that match.
Going into the latest international break, Manchester City were top of the Barclays Women’s Super League table with four games to play, second-placed Chelsea have a game-in-hand.
