Departing Liverpool full-back Koivisto to join AC Milan

Departing Liverpool full-back Emma Koivisto has agreed to join Italian Serie A Femminile eBay club AC Milan.

The Red and Blacks announced news of the transfer via a post on their official club website just a short time ago.

The 29-year-old Finnish international defender will join AC Milan upon the expiry of her contract at Liverpool on 1 July 2024. She has signed a three-year contract with the Italian club.

Koivisto joined Liverpool from Brighton & Hove Albion in summer 2022. The full-back went on to make 40 appearances for The Reds in the Barclays Women’s Super League in which she scored four goals.

Koivisto was a member of a Liverpool side that achieved massively in 2023/2024. The Merseyside club defied the odds to end the campaign in fourth place in the Barclays Women’s Super League table. Koivisto largely operated in a wing-back position during her time with Liverpool and new club AC Milan have indicated that she could play even higher for them with the player being listed as a winger.

It is fair to say that Koivisto joins an AC Milan side that will be wanting much more in 2024/2025. The Red and Blacks ended their latest campaign in sixth position in the Serie A Femminile eBay table, some way off where the club want to be long-term.
