Chelsea have announced the news that full-back Alsu Abdullina is leaving the club upon the expiry of her contract this summer.
The Blues announced the news via a post on their official club website this morning.
The 23-year-old Russian international defender joined Chelsea from Locomotiv Moscow in the January 2022 transfer window. Abdullina has struggled to make the step up at Chelsea and she has been restricted to just 20 appearances for the club in all competitions, most of which have come from the bench.
Abdullina was sent out on loan during the 2023/2024 season. She spent time with French top flight club Paris FC. She helped the club to enjoy a successful run in the UEFA Women’s Champions League and featured against parent club Chelsea when the two sides met in the group stage.
The youngster’s Chelsea departure comes as no surprise with Abdullina having long been linked with a fresh challenge away from the English game. A return to her native Russia is thought to be a possibility this summer.
Abdullina becomes the third player to leave Chelsea since the end of the season. Long-serving pair Maren Mjelde and Fran Kirby are also moving on at the end of their contracts with the South West Londoners.
