Burnley have completed the signing of former Blackburn Rovers defender Jade Richards on a free transfer.
The Clarettes announced news of the deal via a post on their official club website this evening.
Richards joins Burnley after leaving former club Blackburn Rovers earlier this summer. The centre-back spent four seasons with Rovers in which she made 72 appearances for the club in the Barclays Women’s Championship, scoring six goals. Richards established herself as a firm fans’ favourite during her time at Ewood Park.
The player is a household name at Barclays Women’s Championship level and she will be hoping for a swift return to the second tier with new club Burnley.
After joining Burnley, Richards said “I’m really excited. I’ve been here for a little while now and I’m loving it so far.
“A new challenge poses new things, and it was clear to me what Bex [Rebecca Sawiuk] and the team wanted.
“For me, the move was a no-brainer, and it will allow me to challenge myself and adopt a new journey.”
Richards is one of a number of high-profile new additions made by Burnley this summer. The club have been very clear with their aim of challenging for promotion to the Barclays Women’s Championship again this season.
