Bristol City midfielder Carrie Jones has joined Swedish club IFK Norrköping on a permanent deal.
The Robins announced news of the transfer via a post on their official club website this morning.
It has been reported that IFK Norrköping have paid a fee to Bristol City to buy Jones out of her contract at Ashton Gate.
Jones joined Bristol City on a free transfer last summer after leaving former club Manchester United. The 20-year-old Welsh international midfielder made 18 appearances for The Robins in last season’s Barclays Women’s Super League in which she scored three goals. She was unable to help the club remain in the top tier for more than one season.
With Bristol City now facing the prospect of Barclays Women’s Championship football this season, Jones will take up a new challenge in the Swedish OBOS Damallsvenskan with IFK Norrköping. She joins a side that are currently occupying fifth position in the OBOS Damallsvenskan table.
Bristol City were confident of keeping the vast majority of their 2023/2024 squad together for the upcoming season, however, Jones has become the club’s 11th summer departure. The Robins are also searching for a new head coach after former boss Lauren Smith left her position earlier this week.
