Newcastle United defender Cataldo signs new deal

Newcastle United defender Lia Cataldo has signed a new contract with the club.

The Magpies announced news of the deal via a post on their official club website this evening.

The 24-year-old defender joined Newcastle United in the January 2024 transfer window following a spell with Crystal Palace. Cataldo helped guide the Tynesiders to promotion in the second half of last season before going on to be an important member of the squad this term.

Cataldo is hugely experienced at Barclays Women’s Championship level and Newcastle United have moved quickly to retain her services for an extended period.

After signing on again with The Magpies, Cataldo said “I’m absolutely delighted to sign a new deal. Since I joined the club last year, it’s continued to get better and we’ve all become more ambitious.

“This season, we’ve shown that we can compete at this level and I’m excited to be on this journey with such an amazing football club.

“I’ve been here for over a year now and I feel that I have already contributed a lot to the team but I feel as though I’ve still got so much to give. I’m really excited to see what the future holds.”

Cataldo will be hoping to cap-off her new deal with victory in the Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland at St. James’ Park this weekend.
