London City Lionesses sign Dutch defender Kardinaal

London City Lionesses have completed the signing of Dutch youth international defender Isa Kardinaal.

The Pride announced the news via a post on their official club website earlier today.

The 20-year-old centre-back joins London City Lionesses from Dutch Eurojackpot Vrouwen Eredivisie club Ajax where she has spent the last five years of her career. Kardinaal has won one league title and two KNVB Women’s Cups with The Daughters of the Gods.

On the international stage, Kardinaal is a member of the Dutch Under-23s side. The next step will be to push for senior team honours.

After joining London City Lionesses, Kardinaal said “My first impressions are very, very good, I feel very welcome and everyone is nice.

“It’s been great, I have already played a lot of games for Ajax, and this was the right time for a new step in my career. The WSL is the biggest competition for me, so this was the right moment.

“I’m looking forward to playing against the biggest teams and the best players in such high competitions with high intensity. There are a lot of things I am excited for on and off the pitch, I am looking forward to meeting my teammates and getting to know everyone. I’m looking forward to meeting the fans and hopefully we can make a beautiful season.”

Kardinaal is London City Lionesses’ third signing of the summer transfer window.
