Everton winger Lawley joins Burnley on loan

Everton winger Melissa Lawley has joined FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division club Burnley on a season-long loan deal.

The Clarettes announced the news via a post on their official club website this morning.

The 31-year-old former England international joined Everton last summer after leaving their Merseyside rivals Liverpool. Lawley went on to make 20 appearances for The Toffees in all competitions.

An opportunity has arisen for Lawley to link-up with former boss Matt Beard once again at Burnley and the player has opted to join the third tier side on loan.

After completing her loan move to Burnley, Lawley said “I’m really excited to be here.

“I spoke to Beardy [Matt Beard] first and he outlined the challenge, and once I came to the facilities, I saw what Burnley’s about. It’s a family club with everybody together as one.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of helping the team push towards promotion, and taking Burnley to where they should be.”

Lawley will be hoping to help Burnley end their long quest for promotion to Barclays WSL2 this season. The Clarettes have been attempting to reach the elite game for several seasons, narrowly missing out on a couple of occasions.
