Newcastle United announce departure of head coach Langley

Newcastle United have announced the departure of head coach Becky Langley.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club media update from The Magpies this afternoon.

Langley has spent six years in her role in which she has helped guide Newcastle United up the footballing pyramid to the elite game. The Magpies ended last season in the respectable position of fifth in the Barclays WSL2 table.

Newcastle United invested significantly over the summer in a bid to win promotion to the Barclays Women’s Super League this term. On field results have been somewhat disappointing so far with the Tyneside club collecting just one win from their opening six league matches. Newcastle United did record an impressive 3-3 draw with Barclays Women’s Super League side Manchester City in the Subway Women’s League Cup yesterday.

Given Langley’s achievements over the past six years, many expected her to be given time to find a winning formula this season, however, the club have opted for a change in a bid to get their promotion bid up and running.

Newcastle United will now begin the recruitment process to appoint a new head coach. The club could have a new leader in place by the end of the international break.
