Newcastle United sign American forward Charley on short-term deal

Newcastle United have completed the signing of American forward Simone Charley on a short-term deal.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Magpies this evening.

The 30-year-old joins Newcastle United on a free transfer after recently leaving American National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Orlando Pride. She will initially spend the remainder of the season on Tyneside.

Charley is a hugely experienced player. The forward started out with Portland Thorns while she also had time on loan with Australian side Canberra United. A two-year spell at Angel City was up next before Charley joined latest club Orlando Pride in January 2024. The player is a two-time NWSL Shield winner while she has also won the International Champions Cup, the NWSL Championship and the NWSL Challenge Cup in her career to date.

On the international stage, Charley represented the United States in her youth. She turned out for The Stars and Stripes at Under-23 level.

After signing for Newcastle United, Charley said “It feels awesome. I’m really excited to be here and to get started.

“I’m excited to continue to develop and growing my game in a different way. It’s a great opportunity and it feels like a great fit.”

Charley will be available for selection for Newcastle United once the relevant international clearance has been obtained.
