Club legend Mead to leave Arsenal

Arsenal forward Beth Mead will leave the club upon the expiry of her contract in the summer.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Gunners this afternoon.

The 31-year-old England international joined Arsenal from Sunderland in the January 2017 transfer window. She has gone on to make 265 appearances for The Gunners in all competitions in which she has scored 86 goals. Mead has won the Barclays Women’s Super League, UEFA Women’s Champions League, FIFA Women’s Champions Cup and three Subway Women’s League Cups with Arsenal.

Mead is very much an Arsenal legend but her time in North London is coming to an end next month.

After Mead’s departure was announced, Arsenal’s Director of Women’s Football, Clare Wheatley said “Beth has made a huge contribution to our football club over nine years, and will go down in history as one of our best forwards and a legend of the club. Beth is such a special person and will always be welcome at Arsenal. I know our supporters will join me in wishing Beth happiness and success in her future endeavours.”

Mead joins goalkeeper Naomi Williams, defender Laia Codina and midfielder Victoria Pelova in leaving Arsenal this summer.
