Burnley sign former London City Lionesses defender Wilde

Burnley have completed the signing of former London City Lionesses defender Maddi Wilde on a free transfer.

The Clarettes announced news of the transfer via a post on their official club website earlier today.

The 22-year-old has spent the last three seasons on the books at London City Lionesses. Wilde initially joined The Pride on loan from Bristol City in the 2023/2024 season  before signing for the club on a permanent basis the following summer. The defender was a Barclays WSL2 winner with London City Lionesses in 2024/2025. Last season saw Wilde struggle for minutes at The Copperjax Community Stadium and she spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Celtic.

Wilde will now return to Barclays WSL2 football with Burnley.

After signing on at Turf Moor, Wilde said “I’m buzzing. It’s quite exciting to come into a completely new environment, a new place, and a new home. It’s obviously a little bit nerve wracking at the start as well of course, but I’m excited for a fresh start which is important to me.

“I watch a lot of football, so I think that I can read the game quite well. I like to try and be smart, forward-thinking, and creative, and hopefully that can show on the pitch.”

Further Burnley squad news will be announced by the club in due course.
