Departing Birmingham City boss Carla Ward says that she is planning to continue to work in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League in the future.
The 37-year-old will leave the Blues following tomorrow’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup fifth round tie against Southampton at the SportNation.bet Stadium after spending one season with the club.
Having now had a taste for the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, Ward says that there is no other place that she would like to be in the future.
When speaking in a Birmingham City press conference in which FAWSL Full-Time were present, Ward said “I love it. I am not going to lie, I don’t particularly want to get out of the WSL.
“It is somewhere that I have thoroughly enjoyed and see myself continuing.”
With Ward having announced her departure from Birmingham City yesterday, she is likely to now be linked with other managerial vacancies in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. The Blues boss confirmed that there are no offers currently on the table and she initially plans to take a short break from the game over the summer.
She added “There’s nothing else lined up if I’m honest. It is just a case that I have been gearing towards this decision for the last month or two.
“I must admit, I have chopped and changed my mind, this group make you feel that you do not want to leave them, that’s the reality.
“It is just about getting to the end of the season, get Sunday out of the way and the immediate future will be to have a bit of time with my little girl and relax and reflect.
“Now it’s gone out there, I’ll see what’s out there and ultimately, if anyone even wants me so we will see.”
Ward will leave Birmingham City in the quarter-finals of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup if they can see off Tier 4 opponents Southampton. The Saints have already dumped FA Women’s Championship club Lewes out of the competition this season and they will be targeting another cup shock at the SportNation.bet Stadium this weekend.
