Arsenal midfielder Malin Gut will spend at least the next nine months on the sidelines after sustaining an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.
The Gunners have confirmed that the Swiss international sustained the injury during a club training session this week and the player will now be required to undergo surgery.
The news comes as a real blow for Arsenal with Gut having played regularly for the club this season. The midfielder has made 16 appearances for The Gunners in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. The injury is a cruel end to what has been Gut’s first season with the North Londoners with the player having moved to Meadow Park last summer.
With the highly-anticipated UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 a little over a year away, Gut also faces nervous wait to determine whether she will be fit in time for the tournament. Some players recover from her type of injury in as little as nine months whereas others can take longer. The midfielder made nine appearances in qualifying for Switzerland and should be included in the squad selection for the finals, however, she will first need to prove her fitness.
Arsenal end their season without Gut as they face Crystal Palace in the fifth round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup on Sunday.
