Everton defender Wold announces retirement

Everton defender Ingrid Moe Wold has announced her retirement at the age of 31.

The Norwegian international full-back will officially hang up her boots after Everton’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup fifth round tie at Chelsea on Thursday evening.

Wold announced her decision to hang up her boots via a post on her personal Twitter account earlier this evening.

The defender ends her career with 76 senior international caps for her country while she has scored three goals. Wold has represented Norway at two FIFA Women’s World Cups and one UEFA Women’s EURO.

At club level, Wold spent most of her career playing in her homeland with LSK Kvinner where she won seven Toppserien titles and five Norwegian Women’s Cups. A short spell with Spanish club Madrid CFF followed before Wold joined current club Everton last summer.

During her time on Merseyside, Wold has played in all-but-one of Everton’s 22 matches in this season’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League while she has also featured heavily for The Blue Girls in the domestic cups. Wold played the full 90 minutes of Everton’s 3-1 extra-time Vitality Women’s FA Cup final defeat to Manchester City at Wembley in November.

It is understood that Wold will now return home to Norway to take up a career in physiotherapy.
