Chelsea manager Emma Hayes has been nominated for the UEFA Women’s Coach of the Year award.
UEFA announced their three nominees for the award earlier today with former Barcelona head coach Lluís Cortés and Swedish national team boss Peter Gerhardsson competing alongside Blues boss Hayes.
Hayes guided her star-studded Chelsea side to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League title and to FA Women’s Continental League Cup glory last season. The club’s progress was highlighted in the UEFA Women’s Champions League where they overcame some stern opponents to reach the final of the competition for the very first time in their history. The South West Londoners lost 4-0 to Barcelona in the final in a game which saw them ultimately come up against a better side on the day.
Chelsea continue to build and develop both in terms of the strength of their squad and in their on-field performances year-on-year and a lot of the praise really must be directed towards their top class manager Hayes.
Former Barcelona boss Cortes could be the favourite to be named UEFA Women’s Coach of the Year given the fact that he guided the Spanish giants to a first European crown. The club also completed a league and Spanish Cup double in 2020/2021. Swedish boss Gerhardsson is also a strong contender given his country’s Silver Medal success at this summer’s Olympic Games.
The UEFA Women’s Coach of the Year will be announced on Thursday 26 August.
